A Day In Is Not A Day Wasted

I finally have a day off work! In fact, I'm off 'til Wednesday. Oh, luxury indeed!

Sadly I have nothing pleasant planned. At least one of my lovely readers knows the disaster that befell my problem-ridden home some two and a bit weeks ago - namely that the seal to the cold-water inlet of my attic tank burst, flooding the chimney breast wall of my living room. Cue much wailing and gnashing of teeth. The cause? A perished rubber washer, all of 5p to replace (thank you to my fabbie plumber).

Naturally, the insurance are involved and they are coming on Tuesday to assess the damage. Yes, a full 3 weeks. Meanwhile, the paper has fallen off the wall, the mould growth is getting blacker by the day (and yes, I fear for my health) and the damage has crept perceptibly round two corners and is onto the door wall. We have already called in two professionals (one a damp specialist, the other a painter-decorator) and they estimate the damage into the thousands of pounds... without being able to look behind the brick-built fireplace.

While we wait, the house smells more and more damp, and we are both getting headaches daily.... fashion has taken rather a back seat!

However, with that said... I introduced some rather quirky earrings into my wardrobe by simply hanging a couple of bead pendants on an existing pair of silver hoops. Numerous people at work commented favourably, which is strange because this kind of eccentricity used to get me more brickbats than bouquets.

Now, I am off to pick out some fabric for a new sewing venture. Wish me very good luck!

Good luck Lou - let us know how it goes!

I knew about the leak/flood but crumbs, I didn't realise it was so serious that's it taken over your entire living room! Bloody insurance companies. It must be really deeply unpleasant, not to mention hazardous, living with all that mould.

That leak sounds dreadful, hope the insurance company pull their fingers out and get it settled soon. We need to get that Sarah Beeny round.
Good luck with the sewing adventures.xxx
